The original Okiwi House for the elderly was a locally inspired initiative, funded by the Local community to ensure Eastbourne’s more frail elderly could continue to live in the area. However by the mid 1990’s it was becoming apparent that community values were moving to keeping people in their own homes, while at the same time there was increasing competition from more modern alternatives of residential care.
In 2001 it was decided to sell the Okiwi House and set up a charitable trust that could continue to provide support services to Eastbourne’s elderly residence.
The result of this decision is the Okiwi Trust Volunteer Drivers Service and 20 Minute Volunteers. The cost of providing these services are all paid out from interests earned on the Trusts modest investments. However it is difficult to meet all of the Trusts costs, and for this
reason, Okiwi Trust is asking you if you can support our work in the community with a donation or a gift from an estate.
