The Okiwi House Trust was established in 1973 to provide residential care for the communities older residents.
After nearly 35 years, changed circumstances and the sale of Okiwi House in 2001, required the Trust to find new ways of helping older residents to continue to live and participate in the local community.
With this in mind, the Okiwi Trust established a Volunteer Driver Service with a paid coordinator to provide transport which is flexible and sympathetic to the needs of older
residents who are finding using public transport increasingly difficult, or are feeling less confident in driving, particularly outside the Eastbourne area.
The 20-minute Volunteer Service has since been added to the Trust’s services.
